Podcasts, like most audio broadcasts, are a passive medium. You only listen to them while working on something else. These 5 podcasts will keep you entertained while folding your laundry or doing the dishes, and one of them will actually help you sleep.

Sounds Like A Cult

This podcast is exactly what it sounds like. Hosted by Amanda Mondell, the acclaimed writer of the book Cultish, and Isa Medina, Sounds Like A Cult takes on the modern-day “cults” we all follow.

They cover everything from the cult of flat-earthers to the cult of the royal family. It’s incredibly exciting, fun and asks many essential questions about the idea of a community and how far is too far?

Anatomy of Murder

Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi and Scott Weinberger host this addictive true-crime podcast every Wednesday. Anatomy of Murder is as good as it gets for true crime fans. Every episode is well structured, poised, and engaging through and through.

The hosts portray such a vivid picture of the story, handling each element with delicate care, focusing on the victim, the crime and the investigation–all with immense diligence.

Bonus: if you’re like me, you might find it oddly soothing to listen to this as a bedtime podcast.

I Can’t Sleep Podcast

Talking about bedtime podcasts, it’s impossible not to mention Benjamin Boster. His I Can’t Sleep Podcast is a revelation within the genre. The premise is pretty simple: he reads random articles from the web to “bore you to sleep”. And speaking from personal experience, it always works.

From Blockchain to Mathematics to Cats, Benjamin reads about it all. His soothing, monotonous voice will quickly become the equivalent of a warm bedtime tea for you.

You can also access all the episodes ad-free by subscribing to the paid version.

The Dropout

Do you like big-tech, scandals, lawsuits or a billionaire plummeting to the bottom? Then, you will love The Dropout. Created by ABC News, the podcast covers the full story of Elizabeth Holmes and her company Theranos. Once deemed the “next Steve Jobs,” how the youngest self-made billionaire came crashing down.

Whether you’re familiar with the Theranos debacle or not, this one is a must-listen. It includes exclusive interviews with former employees, investors, and patients and even the never-aired-before deposition testimony of Elizabeth Holmes.

The Dropout includes two segments: the first is the rise and fall of Theranos, and the second is the Trial of Elizabeth Holmes.

Maintenance Phase

Maintenance Phase is a breath of fresh air in the world of podcasts. Hosted by Aubrey Gordon & Michael Hobbes, the podcast debunks “the health fads, wellness scams and nonsensical nutritional advice.”

Challenging the toxic culture of the modern fitness industry, they take a deep dive into things like Keto, BMI, and Fat Camps. The way they approach these serious topics makes all the difference in the world. The hosts are empathetic, understanding, frustrated and profoundly funny.

Note: Some content can be triggering for people with eating disorders as they talk about body weight and food extensively.
